How to use slope on a golf rangefinder
By VyKure · October 2026
A flat yardage is only half the story on a hilly hole. Here is how slope compensation works and how to use it well.
What slope compensation does
A rangefinder measures the straight-line distance to the target. On an uphill or downhill shot, the ball does not play that distance. Slope compensation uses the angle to show the adjusted playing distance, so you can choose a club for the shot you actually face.
Using the slope switch on the VyKure rangefinder
The VyKure golf rangefinder has a slope on/off button. With slope on, you see the compensated distance. In the example diagram on our product page, a measured 156 yards plays as 176 yards uphill.
When to switch slope off
Many tournaments and local rules restrict slope features. Switch slope off for those rounds, and always check the rules before you play.
Tips for better readings
Adjust the eyepiece until the target is sharp, hold the unit steady, keep the battery charged and avoid reflective surfaces such as glass.
